I’ve enjoyed Gervais in the past. I still think he’s a good actor and sometimes a terrific writer, though his pettiness & transphobia have put me off almost entirely. His provocations feel joyless now. Last night was like an unhappy drunk trying to get thrown out of the bar.

The MAGAs are in my mentions cackling over how incredibly mad I am that Gervais owned me and the other phonies last night. Truly, my fury is white hot and cleansing.

The last thing I can bring myself to say about Gervais is that when your most ardent defenders are MAGA and Qanon, maybe do an extra pass on your jokes next time.

How has he not drowned in his own smug by now?

It’s depressing to watch. He really used to make special things, used to cut his cynicism with empathy. Now it’s just preening self-regard.
