  3. When we heard about Flint, I was Director of the Health Department in Detroit – and we tested every school in the city for lead. The water wasn’t safe in too many places where we keep our kids. We have a water crisis in MI. We have to act like it.

  4. When scientists are corrupted, they don’t just shake support for their science - but science in general. Just like we’ve got to get the corporate funding out of politics - we’ve got to get the corporate funding out of science, too.

If we are bold, if we have the courage to take on the fossil fuel industry, if we are prepared to invest in sustainable energy, we can make the necessary changes to save the planet. And that’s exactly what we have to do.

  7. People often talk of the gender wage gap stemming from an education gap. But in Michigan, women are more likely to have a bachelor’s degree than men – and the wage gap still averages $13,000. Let’s not keep perpetuating myths. We need solutions as big as our problems are.

  12. In medical school, we learned the Golden rule: do no harm. Government should play by the same rule – and when mass incarceration, predatory immigration policy, bankrupting healthcare costs, and failing education harm our communities, we need to rethink our politics.

  17. If you want to serve people, you have to listen to them first. And I mean LISTEN – Go to their cities. Talk to them on the phone. Take their donations over corporate ones. ...and once you do that, actually write the policies that serve them. That's what politics is for.

For too many years, our Government has ignored the needs of our most vulnerable. No longer. Politicians, beware. You have 2 options: 1⃣Stand for people of color, religious minorities, the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed. 2⃣ Get out of the way. Choose wisely.
