Out today in TICS! and I try to synthesize the past 30 years of often-conflicting human theta research into a coherent story. Did we succeed?

How hard would you work to prevent loss of $5? As hard as you’d be willing to work to gain $5? Most tend to work harder to prevent loss. This excellent work by explores this question and links loss aversion to dopamine.

Speed coding is quite heterogeneous across EC + CA1 layers and cell types, with differences in theta phase and direction. I wonder how that affects path integration... Another home run paper from the Mizuseki lab!

Today I will be teaching my undergrad course "How to build a brain from scratch" for the 2nd year running. I've put the materials online - include a document with all lecture slides and notes, which is about as long as a decent novel. Enjoy!

How does the thalamus contribute to memory? Mediodorsal thalamus has a material-general role in familiarity; anterior thalamus has a material-general role in recollection Mediodorsal thalamus coupling w/ MTL cortex is related to familiarity confidence

: Repeated measures ANOVA is traditionally a horrible nightmare in R. The `afex` package changes this. Easily specify a rm-model that gives identical results to SPSS using `afex::aov_car`. Automatically applies the GG correction. install.packages("afex")
