    Do professors like to hear from former students about good news? There is a prof I had in undergrad who really influenced my decision to pursue philosophy, and wrote my letters of recommendation for my MA. Should I write her to tell her about my PhD program acceptance?

    One of the reasons I recommend the new book "The Ethical Algorithm" by Michael Kearns and is that they do just this. They are very clear on what CS can *and cannot* do when it comes to fairness.

    Social scientists who want to see how computer scientists are thinking about Differential Privacy, check this out. I think you will find the lingo more familiar many CS introductions... it even says Type II error.
