So cool that space plays the Under the Skin score

The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound. Here it's amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!

Sometimes I find myself thinking about when Cupid (of the Cupid Shuffle) tried out for The Voice because his career had stalled and he was “capable of so much more” and then he went onstage and sang… The Cupid Shuffle. And none of the judges turned their chairs around.

One element of the climate bill that I keep dwelling on: It's remarkably different from, and better than, what we tried to pass during Obama's 1st term. And the critical difference is an increased willingness to JUST THROW A TON OF MONEY AT THE PROBLEM. That's good. Very good.

There is no such thing as a good printer. They are all terrible. You’re going to try replying to this to tell me about a good printer but what you don’t realize is that you’re a liar.

Three months ago I heard Salman Rushdie speak at the PEN World Voices Festival. He said: “A poem cannot stop a bullet. A novel can’t defuse a bomb … But we are not helpless … We can sing the truth & name the liars.” We must tell better stories than the tyrants.

When I had to stay home sick from school, I'd snuggle up on the couch and pop my favorite VHS into the VCR: Wag the Dog. (Seriously.) Anne Heche's performance is a high-wire act of anxiety and it gives the film its energy and a lot of its stakes and it's burned into my mind. RIP.

Always a good sign when you’re comparing your favorite president to Pinochet.

Top comments on Trump forums right now are just trying to ID the specific FBI agents who were part of and signed off on the raid so they can be “helicopter passengers,” a reference to Chilean dictator Augusta Pinochet murdering dissidents by throwing them out of helicopters.

I love "Drunk in Love" for many reasons and one of them is that it always reminds me of an otherwise forgotten Clint Eastwood/Justin Timberlake/Amy Adams baseball movie.

I do have some comfort knowing that if Trump had ever actually needed the nuclear codes, he 100% would have tried to click a “Forgot Password?” button.
