I kind of lost my cool with this person. I’m just so sick of seeing this BS. https://twitter.com/blindfury_5428/status/1218487242596896768?s=21 …https://twitter.com/BlindFury_5428/status/1218487242596896768 …

Blind person using phone Thanks you Support from non blind people is vital to change attitudes

I try to politely correct the assumption whenever I see it. This guy was being a huge ass about it though.

This is the kind of thinking that leads to blind people being harassed in public for using phones

-
I sometimes don’t use my phone in public because I’m afraid of this happening. I don’t want to become a meme or worse.

I have my phone on silent all the time because I can't hear, and I would complain that a lot of things are audio based so does this person not realise that sound exists or that screenreaders exist? Like it makes no sense to me that people think blind people can't use phones??
-
I have mine on silent all the time because I hear too well, can’t filter out background noise and generally only have peace to watch things in the wee hours in a shared bedroom or while the kids are being noisy. Why does everything not have (optional) subtitles!!!

We are actually visually impaired with a degenerative condition that is making us slowly blind. But we are also visual artists. For our comic we are working on text descriptions for each episode, but we are still working on getting caught up with those.

I appreciate you posting about this. I've seen a few posts lately about making tweets more accessible (by using image descriptions & such), and I needed the reminder - I haven't been very good about that & I need to make an effort to be better!
-
Same here! It is also a good idea to be thoughtful with emoji use. I try to use them at the end of paragraphs, and I avoid spamming duplicates. Nobody wants to read "slightly smiling face slightly smiling face slightly smiling face" in the middle of a sentence!
