But it's important to dig deeper. Recovery affecting different workers differently. It's the young (men in particular) where problems remain. Here's the gap (difference between 'needed' and 'actual') by age. Problem isn't economy-wide. Recovery is very real for most. 4/4

StatsCan went out of their way to highlight that in their release today, after a big gain in Alberta in November (+24,000) and a big drop in December (-17,000). As they note: "On a trend-cycle basis, overall employment in the province has been increasing since June 2016."

Lol. Derek Fildebrandt is not my cup of tea politically, but he does a very good job of trolling Jason Kenney in this tweet. Kenney, as he so often does, is talking out of both sides of his mouth

Poring through CO2 emission inventory data for BC since the 1990s because I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of carbon tax / emissions talk this year. Just a hunch.

Cutting corp tax rates to increase investment is a mugs game. We've cut the rates but haven't seen the investment. Glad didn't fall for it.

Here is an interesting graph on how property taxes are used in Calgary. The new city budget (source of this graph) is to be discussed by council next week.

I worked at Metro Calgary when it published this front-page wrap (on election day!) in 2013. Reporters objected, of course, but were overruled. So I can imagine how editorial staff at the Edmonton Journal feel today. This stuff was unthinkable at newspapers not too long ago.

Sometimes I like to imagine what went down in the meeting in which the decided to copy Trumps' "Make America great again" and came out with "Get Alberta back on track". I always wonder if they fantasized about making red hats with a GABOT logo...

Yesterday, told the Edm Chamber of Commerce that he wants more charter schools and more "competition" in health care. Both policies seek to further privatize public services, especially since he also wants to cut real public spending per capita.

LEAKED LETTER: John Carpay recently sent a secret fundraising letter, which implied GSAs would be used by "predators, abusers and bullies" to exploit children. Why does continue to tolerate this blatant homophobia within his party?

I’m sad and angry, and frankly, I’m scared. At what point is held accountable for his support of anti-LGBTQ2S bigots like John Carpay and his very own record of opposing LGBTQ2S rights and protections at every step of his career.

The first part of this article details how conservatives moved this year on the issue. It neglects to mention, however, the influence of Republicans and Trump operatives on that change in policy direction.

The housing market is slowing down in AB due largely to higher interest rates and tighter mortgage rules. This will impact construction jobs.

Great to see that the plan put in place by the provincial government to fight rural crime had a promising start. Still don't understand why the voted against providing more funds for police to do this work.

Our new report, out today, reveals that Canadian universities are relying more and more on contract employees, creating precarious employment for their staff and impacting the educational experience of their students.

If you're wringing your hands about an NDP labour minister supporting some picketing workers, here's what the other side is doing. I think I'm cool with backing workers.
