#LifeEsidimeni hearings about to start. Gauteng premier David Makhura continues his testimony. He’s being cross-examined by LegalAid SA’s advocate Nzame Skibi. @ReporterStar

#LifeEsidimeni Makhura says the decision to cancel contract was not an executive decision because he didn’t co-sign agreement with former MEC Qedani Mahlangu.

#LifeEsidimeni Skibi asks if MECs give Makhura quarterly reports. Makhura says he has six-weekly meetings with MECs but claims Mahlangu never brought up the transfer of patients to NGOs with him. “It was not reported, not even privately.”

#LifeEsidimeni Skibi:”Do you have any reason why she would behave that way?” Makhura:”I would like to leave it to this process ...because I don’t know.” @ReporterStar

#LifeEsidimeni Makhura says after Mahlangu announced in the legislature that 36 people died, he met with her. “It was clear that they themselves they had a problems with the stats.” He says the figure given by Mahlangu to legislature was wrong.

#LifeEsidimeni Makhura asked what he did to ensure more patients didn’t die. “It was clear there was an intervention ...by minister...I was ensuring that intervention was given support.” There was also a health ombudsman investigation and he supported it. @ReporterStar
