You are also incorrect about recovery rates . In SA deaths from covid not counting excess deaths stand at around 3.5% with excess deaths counting out car accidents etc it is closer to 5% .
You appear to be basing death rate %'s on confirmed positive cases only. That's not accurate. We include asymptomatic, untested positives - those who were +ve, did not test & who recovered, many w/out even knowing they were +ve.

I don't follow your reasoning here. The comment contemplated both official case and death figures, AND those that are not recorded as such. Perhaps you could show your calculations. By my reckoning, even if "cases" are double the official figures, then the 5% really does work.
