Word(s) of the day: “grey ghost” - nickname for the male hen harrier; also sky-dancer. Latin name is Circus cyaneus; (dark-)blue circler.

I would like to live in a country where our 'National Parks" see their primary role as areas that protect, conserve & improve the outcome of our native wildlife by ensuring that their biodiversity is as good as it can possibly be.

Denmark suspends open-cage fish farming industry over environmental matters. Scottish Government expands open-cage fish farming ignoring specialist environmental advice. How does that sound ?

The indifference to the killing of wildlife is appalling. Let's not forget it is embedded within our own society, not just in distant lands. Time to put an end to these "disappearances"

Werritty is right. The future of grouse shooting is political. It always has been. Review was a waste of time. Grouse shoting is an anachronistic, damaging and outdated form of land use and should be done away with.

Werritty review was always misconceived. It focused on licensing "grouse-shooting businesses". Wild animals are res nullius but Victorian legislation passed by male landowners privatised a public resource. That's what needs to change. All else is a distraction.

I did advise a senior civil servant at the time that appointing 2 estate/game representatives to the Werrity review jeopardised its balance and independence..so not altogether surprised that the long grass has been sought, hoping the issue gets forgotten..

Many of us who live in the countryside think it is time for decisive action to help stop wildlife persecution on driven grouse moors. Time to act on no delay required for clarification

At raises the Werrity review which was published today, asking the FM whether she is surprised that having appointed representatives of the grouse shooting lobby to the review, they have used their effective veto to sabotage it.

One the most cogent and compelling critiques of driven grouse shooting. In a page and a half. Worth a read.

The Countryside Alliance take raptor persecution seriously, like the NRA worry about school shootings. They’re so worried that they are now launching baseless attacks on police officers tackling the problem. Their motives are clear and shameful - no better than the criminals.

Lots applauding statement on ‘zero tolerance’ for raptor persecution. As always is the only place to get a proper examination as to why nobody should be fooled by these empty words
