50% of new businesses don't hit this milestone. If you want in on a little secret 😏--it's way easier to cross this line if you hire responsibly & treat people well like Jay.

Plastic Fern Studios 🌱 is 5 years old today which is a huge milestone for us and proves that it's possible to create a different kind of working environment. I'll write more about it soon but thank you to all of our team, friends, fam, and clients who made this possible ♥️♥️♥️

Pretty sure I only passed because I embarrassed myself so incredibly during the final presentation that the prof passed me as a thank-you for the amusement. Whatever you're thinking, it was worse. Buy me 3+ drinks & I may regale you.

Flex your lowest academic low score. To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end. Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.

Another dad at my kid's gymnastics has a weekly one-hour bluetooth call every single week in the tiny waiting/observation area. He speaks 80-90% of the time. I have questions: 1. Why (do you do this) 2. Who (would listen to this)

with mass layoffs an org admits they: - don't actually value talent and/or - hired talent that wasn't that valuable, so are bad at hiring - aren't creative or agile enough to find new uses for that talent - were running a bloated org with poor contingency imho

talent is the highest value asset any business has. That so many massive orgs seem to ignore this makes me feel like I am losing my mind.

In sound design in particular, I can sometimes deduce by someone's deliveries aspects of their lived experience. Outdoorsy folks deliver more convincing external ambiences. People who've worked labour deliver better physics objects.

One of the, I think, more overlooked benefits of good work-life balance for working artists *that benefits employers* is that people who have time & energy to experience the world bring their experiences to their art, intuitively.

I did 10 mins of weight training on Tuesday & this morning I could barely wash my own hair. Just sitting at my desk is agony. Exercise at 38 is a bastard.

Watched The Menu. Pig delivered the same(ish) message more impactfully IMO but The Menu gets extra points for dropping the gloves & being utterly batshit.

Fantastic thread from here for VAs trying to improve their chances in a very competitive scene. Note the astounding number of dismissed auditions for having poor sound quality! 116 of 376 people didn't even make it through the door due to poor recording. Fundamentals!

ALRIGHT SO - Let's look at some casting stats! Recently, I opened up a casting call for a new interactive project. Non-union, specifically for actors with quality home studios, at a rate of $250 per hour, with a minimum of two hours per actor.

The game's genre absolutely matters, and I think boss tracks should always be interactive. Cinematic games benefit from interactive cinematic scores. Beat'em ups? Nah. Players just wanna jam out.
