She goes on to explain that she did not speak up when her office did things she disagreed with and that she defended the State against people whose rights had been violated by police. Nobody's perfect.
And that's one good reason we should extend each other the benefit of the doubt. We should not seek to immediately brand someone buying the wrong drink as a bigot. And we should not cheapen that word with so much real injustice in the world.

As a public defender, I can say going from a pd to a prosecutor reveals a special kind of thirst for the wrong kind of power.
