Remember, it were the Hindus who gladly accepted the passing of the Hindu Code Bills in 1955 that took away their rights to practice personal law. Am sure Mr Ansari and proponents of the right to practice personal law wouldn't mind the BJP tearing up the Hindu Code Bills. Wait.

All five judges made excellent remarks, including the lone dissenting voice. The #SabrimalaVerdict marks the dawn of a new India where, rightly, upholding Article 21 would take precedence over upholding Article 25. One hopes it would be applied fairly across ALL religions.

The most incisive comment of the day. Absolutely nailed it. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that, rationally speaking, Articles 21 and 25 CANNOT coexist - Fundamental contradiction of our Constitution. I see trouble ahead for SC. Spine, or Spinelessness.https://twitter.com/kushal_mehra/status/1045568233162657793 …

The judges were not thinking like the devout believers. They were thinking like atheists. That too of a particular lens. If the lens of atheism is the future route why even let a belief in the imaginary deity my lords?

There can be no liberty unless you abjure Religion. Hundreds if not thousands of Religious edicts are discriminatory and violate Art 21. There can be no real liberty unless there is equality before law. And one doesn't need to amend any religious texts. One simply needs to use common sense, logic and rationality to have a rule of law that suits society at present.

This is why, sadly, I have to admit that @rahulroushan is right. A progressive, secular State that, correctly, removes discrimination from the Hindu religion, but cowers behind a lamppost like a wet cat when it comes to other religions, is not a progressive, secular State.

You can't bemoan tyranny of your State and accept tyranny of your religion. Consequently, those who find nothing wrong in their Religion, preach it, say it promotes peace, liberty, and equality, but balk at the concept of a Theocratic State, are hypocrites of the highest order.

Disagree here. Obscurantism is a term quite inappropriate in the context given that one is talking of Faith to begin with, and second, at least to me, the plea against perceived discrimination was logical, discerning, and accepted thus by one SC judge.https://twitter.com/Swamy39/status/1052389172206546945 …

One can disobey a ban without infringing on the rights of others; but how can one disobey an un-ban without infringing on the rights of others? Violate a law if you are ready to face the consequences. But you can't violate someone else's right to follow the same law. Not fair.
