    The passing of journalist and public servant Al Smith has saddened many, including ARC. Smith served as ARC's Federal Co-Chairman from 1979 to 1982, and we're grateful his contributions to the Appalachian Region. Our Federal Co-Chairman Tim Thomas' full statement is below.
