Very proud of this paper - 100% of authors are from Bioinformatics Institute! Our dig at UK Biobank GWAS dataset in an attempt to characterize pleiotropy and find interesting functional insights.

Asked to write a chapter about RNA-seq counts modeling, I used bookdown to put all the material online. Includes some new workflow pieces like tximeta for import and swish for transcript level:

Widespread divergent transcription from prokaryotic promoters New preprint from the lab with ... big congrats and ...dare I say worth a look for anyone working on a prokaryote or in the area of transcription.

Many biologists are interested in how well RNA and protein expression correlate. We confirmed that they have middling correlation on average (~0.5). But the scope of these data let us ask this on a per-gene level across many tissue lineages. (3/13)

I’m beyond excited to see our paper out! ‘Inhibiting bacterial cooperation is an evolutionarily robust anti-biofilm strategy’ Based on imidazole EPS inhibitors I started developing in 2008 and an inspiring research stay with Kevin Foster

We wrote the review that I wished I'd had when I started my PhD in gene regulation & genomics! Read for our take on the past 40 yrs of enhancer biology, a def of an "enhancer", and how we think modern tech (like CRISPR screens) will enable the next era of understanding the genome

I am very happy to present BlastFrost! BlastFrost allows to query large collections of bacterial genome assemblies for sequences of interest, building on the Bifrost colored+compacted de Bruijn graph library by 1/n

New paper for the new year! It compares different long-read assemblers for microbial genome assembly: Two Twitter threads follow - one about the paper itself and one about my experience with . (1/n)

We developed a new method to find functional enrichments in GWAS data, named LSEA, detailed here: A key biological finding is how much observed pleoiotropy is in matrisome and matrisome regulators!

We have isolated and described another member of the mysterious Holospora-like bacteria -- candidatus Gortzia. Next step -- full genome. This was my first experience with preprint. I liked it very much -- wish paper review was this fast!

I am super happy to share our latest foray into the genetic architecture of complex traits! This was a project headed by Kevin-I-can't-believe-you-are-still-not-on-Twitter-Hartman, Sara Rashkin, and , and was a VERY long time in the making!
