    Paging all recent journalism school grads...

    you can make a living as a writer and never pitch a single publication or write a single article. there are dozens of other ways to get paid to write. find what works for you and don't feel pressured to follow someone else's path.

    Glad folks are starting to talk about this. A fair and well-reported piece

    At the top, this is a story about Dem hypocrisy—advocating for a $15 minimum wage while paying their interns less. But once you get past that, it's really a story about how Congress's budget is way too small, and how opportunity in Congress isn't equal.

    Perhaps this is as good a time as any to mention to any editors following me that I am once again available for commissions if you'd like a follow-up to this!

    Wrote about this issue three years ago -- a story inspired by one of my community college students, a parent of twins who worked in childcare and ran herself ragged trying to meet degree reqs. The GOP taking this up is certainly an interesting development.

    I am finding it helpful today to remind myself that everyone processes traumatic events differently. Some are having trouble working. Some find it helpful to get back to work. Some need to Tweet. Some are better off staying away from the news. All of it is OK and valid.

    I still can't believe I made it past "kiddo" but the belittling of community colleges was what really did it for me.

    The disparaging of community colleges in my inbox today (“Jill Biden couldn’t even get a job at a real college”) is honestly more enraging than The Bad Column itself.
