Yes, but when are they truly acceptable? Increasingly, newsrooms want attribution when that word is used. “Xxxxx has been under fire since making controversial comments last week. Yyyyy called those comments racist....”

Yeah, the HUGE problem with this AP stylebook decision is that the people making the judgment call on what is “racist or racism” are so liberal & so PC that anything short of a white person apologizing for being born white (especially if they are a conservative man) would qualify

I'm all in on the advice, but this sentence is surprisingly hard to parse because of the missing quotation marks around mentioned words. I completely thought the initial advice was not to use racially charged terms as euphemisms. Aren't you a style guide...?
