    Excellent piece on the folks who really run the Senate and the departure of GOP's Laura Dove. Floor staff have to really love the place to do what they do. Not the easiest of personalities to work with.

    Laura Dove still struggles to explain what "secretary of majority" does, after almost 7 years. She settled on comparing it to elite caddies. “Very strong opinions about what club you use, but I’m never going to play there,” she says in exit interview.

    This is a good job for a former member. When Gibson retired it was chattered that he might be statewide office material but I'm not so not sure Senate or governor are very realistic for Republicans at this point

    I am confident that Roberts has been given guidance from the Senate parliamentarian that the CJ don't break no ties.

    What is the chance McConnell already knows whether Roberts would break a tie or not? My guess is 100%.

    It is extremely unlikely that Republicans would overturn Roberts if it ever came to that.

    Note from Schumer: Chief Justice Roberts can make a ruling on witnesses which can be overruled by the Senate.
