I’ll wait till they have facts on the home inspections. These were not hardwired smoke detectors. The occupants can easily stop them from working.

That's very true, batteries die, people take batteries out to make it stop beeping waiting on the landlord to replace them & just leave the unit up, but it's the landlords responsibility I think to ensure that working smoke detectors are in the units. At least in MD it is.

They say the smoke detectors were inspected in spring, 2021. I'm pretty sure batteries for these last more than a year. Some 'inspector' may have faked it.
