You pardon people who did something wrong. You CAN NOT pardon an innocent man! Rather, you declare the judgement void and offer compensation as could be deemed appropriate by the deceased's estate.

A pardon is probably the fastest way to get the conviction set aside. Plessy doesn't have an estate at this point as his estate would be long since closed. Claims are settled within so many months or years after death.

Plessy v Ferguson legalized segregation saying it was constitutional, wasn’t overturned until brown v board of education but we all know it still exists today.
