Potter didn’t just “say” it, it’s quite apparent in the body cam video she announced “taser, taser.” And her reaction afterwards is clear she knew she made a mistake and there was no intent to discharge a firearm.

Has she been coached in the fine art of blubbering on the stand ala Kyle Rittenhouse??

I believe she did accidently grab the wrong weapon. A decent prison term is still warranted, imo. She should be held to a higher standard in every regard when it comes to her job. Mistakes should cost jobs, and crimes should be punished harshly. A "deterrent" as they like to say.

Her defense is a perfect reason cops should never have been given the freedom to use tasers on citizens.

Both devices, gun and taser, have a safety which should be on when holstered. Are they in the same place? Would a reasonable person believe they were activating one when they were holding the other? The taser is largely plastic, the gun is mostly metal. Do they feel the same?

She clearly didn't meant to kill him, but she did. So there needs to be some consequences for it. I don't know what she can say to mitigate that fact.

This is why deescalation training is so desperately needed

I believe her, too. But a consequence must be handed down. What a terrible thing for everyone involved.
