"A warning signal that may have averted many deaths." In an @AP interview, the Botswana virologist who may well have discovered the omicron variant of the coronavirus, expressed pride in how international scientists sounded the alarm to the world.http://apne.ws/mTe96BB

But Dr. Sikhulile Moyo was also dismayed over travel bans slapped on southern African nations due to the new virus variant. “Is that how you reward science? By blacklisting countries?”http://apne.ws/ZBnPX3o

Taking steps to minimize spread is RESPECTING the science……”rewarding” science isn’t high on the priority list.

It is not blacklisting. It is an attempt to isolate and stop the virus before it is widely spread and difficult to control. As a scientist he should know that.

So true. What country will now notify the world if they also find another variant? They won't. They'll keep silent.

So Dr. Sikhulile Moyo would keep borders open and allow the virus to spread? He is not that smart after all. If we know that the variant is not dangerous and we still close borders, I agree. Without knowing much about new variant and having seen the wreck, just take risk?

It's not blacklisting, really, it's being cautious given what we've been through and seen over the last two years with this virus. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt while countries take the time to understand and study this new variant.
