Amazing that the media has already given the administration a bye on the debacle in Afghanistan,well maybe not so amazing,considering it's gotten a bye on the border crisis,handling of CoVid,inflation,etc. This administration won't be remembered as bad it just won't be remembered

A bigger question is why what made those Americans stay behind choice? Any American who stayed behind it was by choice for whatever reason. None were denied the ability to get out. They chose to stay. Perhaps you should ask them what made them stay.

Some are in hiding, unable to safely get to Kabul airport. Some travel docs destroyed. Some don't want to leave vulnerable family members behind. Several complicated reasons.

War is always messy. All things considered, it's astounding that more 120,000 people were able to leave after the Taliban took Kabul. Not easily, but definitely better than the fall of Saigon. More continue to leave, quietly, in small numbers. Efforts continue, thankfully.
