6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion consisting of 850 officers & enlisted in 4 companies, & was the only female African-American unit sent overseas. Their commander, Maj. Charity Adams, was the 1st African-American woman to be commissioned. Nicknamed the “Six Triple Eight”.
