She couldn’t call her granddaughter and ask her

When it happened to my mom, a woman pretended to be my daughter in tears being held by the French police (studying abroad). She begged my mom not to call me bc she didn’t want to get in trouble. That’s where she went wrong. My girls will always call me. Still freaked my mom out.

My grandparents in FL get that call about once a year. They usually F with the scammers because they’re sharp and bored.

Omigod this is so horrible. I hate those bs scammers. Someone did that to my dad claiming to be my son. He lost a couple grand. People ask why the elders fall for it, but it's bc they care. Many are alone & don't hear from grandkids much. It is evil, don't blame victims

Scams will become more prevalent as the economy becomes more desperate, and with the internet you have to deal with the world’s desperation. We’ll never stop it trying to play whack-a-mole with fraud.
