Or…… this is why America wins the global ingenuity game??? Just maybe it’s why the US has such a large GDP?? Pushing those with more ability instead of holding them back seems logical to me

As an educator, I can assure you that NOT every child is gifted /talented. Many truly gifted students struggle socially (and emotionally) in school when not challenged. An advanced curriculum is not for every child. However, a highly qualified teacher is a must for every child.

100% this. I think a name-change would help, as people seem to be reacting to whether kids in the program are the only ones with gifts or talents. Everyone has their gifts and talents, its the kids who need the extra challenge of an advanced curriculum that are served by GT.

NY is not the place to look to as an example for the country. The politics of school selection is crazy there. exacerbated by wide economic differentials & neighborhood segregation. You're so right. I was in gifted & talented programs throughout all of my schooling & never had to go through what NY goes through.
