The popularity and discussions around DNA testing are making people re-examine the difference between ethnicity and race. It certainly did that with our family. Government wasn’t ready for it and it may reflect poorly on allocation of funds, resources and voting districts.

A lot of experts about the Puerto Rican people in here. Puertorriqueños are European, African, and Taino native descendents. For decades the country's USA census only had white and non-white as an identifier. Unfortunately, identifying as white doesn't come with white privileges.

Puerto Rico's born citizens cannot vote for the president. Don't have meaningful representation in congress. Can't receive SSI. Veteran and Social benefits are cut if living in the island. Because of the Jones Act, an island cannot have cargo land unless is from an USA vessel.
