"People’s cultures will be destroyed." Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate visited a vast German open-pit coal mine and a village that is to be bulldozed for its expansion, saying the destruction has implications far beyond Germany.http://apne.ws/FS25Do2

When you can't eat, when there's no water, when the animals migration locations are gone, when the animals don't have survivable temperatures, how do you suppose anyones culture will survive?

Welcome to Kreis Heinsberg, Germany. What our government supports is no longer normal. These villages have history and this history disappears piece by piece in the hole, whole people are expropriated and not properly compensated and the coal releases a lot of CO2. Terrible

Her decision was neither silly nor populist, it was well thought through and paved the way for a fossil-free future. She is still our chancellor, and she enjoys solid support from the majority of Germans. If you don't like her, that's your problem - we do.

What sense does it make to still publish tearful reports here when it has long since been decided that the overexploitation will end? Maybe not until 2038, but probably well before that. Couldn’t there have been better places to visit?

        2038 is way too late.
