In the six weeks since the Taliban took over Kabul, life has changed in the Afghan capital. New restrictions have been felt most by women: High school girls haven’t been allowed back to class. Female city government employees have been told to stay home.http://apne.ws/0jOkp5f

In the windows of a salon, some advertisements featuring women’s faces have been covered while others remain untouched, emblematic of the in-between where Kabul resides as it remains unclear which restrictions the Taliban will enforce. http://apne.ws/vgtJZxU pic.twitter.com/paSd8xLBxg

In the streets, the most blaring change is the presence of the Taliban themselves. One evening, a group of Taliban fighters guarded a building painted with a mural of a woman behind barbed wire, originally made to comment on the harshness of war. http://apne.ws/grHEpsZ pic.twitter.com/mfd84FQy7f

Other scenes show signs of the growing economic desperation in Afghanistan, where the U.N. warns 97% of people could be below the poverty level by the end of the year. See more AP Photos from Kabul: http://apne.ws/D6rBEoX pic.twitter.com/ayAKZ5Nl52

The U.S. bombed Afghan civilians to bits for 20 years, with nary a peep from the corporate news media. Now they weep lest a sparrow fall in Afghanistan.

one route to prevent this might be to negotiate deals with the Taliban to mine the countries mineral assets, employing afghans and reinvesting in the country. The money for the contracts is the carrot and the conditions required before any money is transfered is the stick.

Looks like someone playing baseball or Cricket in the background left. Not certain what this is a picture of "file photo"?
