In a Capitalist Society, it is NOT up to the Federal Government to make sure your information is secure online, it is the Responsibility of the Tech Company. If you are Not satisfied with their level of protection, don't do business with them anymore.
Not sure if that really makes sense, for example there is the GDPR in European countries which companies have to abide by (you get no proof if the data is deleted or not). My point is that government can impose laws regarding data protection but they just don’t and won’t
