Federal rules mean urban neighborhoods across the U.S. could lose out to rural areas on using federal pandemic aid for broadband service. @DavidALieb.http://apne.ws/kWvzagm

That’s the point. Rural areas are the most underserved so they will get more that the urban areas which already have broadband.

It doesn’t address the issue of the millions living under the poverty line in urban areas. I’m not against expanding access to rural areas which have largely been without but it seems there are relatively inexpensive solutions for expanding access where broadband is prolific.

I mean, the rural areas have lacked high speed internet for years, and cities are doing ok as at least they have access. Right?

well speaking as one who has lived in a rural area. they may need more money to even get internet to some locations. i have lived in 2 locations in the past that had no internet service at all and one of them was 1 mile from a main road with internet.

I think the focusing first on rural areas, with limited access, is the right thing. Faster speed in urban areas might mean you buffer less, while streaming videos, but you still have access. I pay the faster speed upgrade for the luxury of not buffering.

That's a switch. Rural areas usually get the short end of the stick! They need broadband too!

Does the article even mention the 1000s of Navajo students who have had no way at all to connect to study remote during COVID? Yes, many or most rural areas don't even have broadband infrastructure built yet. AND they are NOT all white, yall. NOT.
