This happens every year. Why don't we fix the infrastructure issue and not have these problems every hurricane?

Utilities are so short-sighted, they don't get the long term value of burying lines although I have read some of the burned areas in CA will be burying, likely b/c sparks from overhead lines have started fires & they're a liability at this point.

Point of this story? Inform? Educate? FYI Hurricane season now lasts until the end of November. Climate change is real. If you live in areas that are prone to hurricanes know check https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ & know where the shelters are in your area. Speaking from experience.

This is bad. Hurricane Hugo in 1989, my small city of 5000 did not get electricity for 3 weeks. Larger cities got it back faster. That's just the way it is. What we have NOT learned through hurricanes, fires, blizzards is to *make* utilities bury the lines.

Most of these areas are also swamps. What is the lifespan of a power line buried in a swamp?
