Reading @normfeuti's "Retail" series has made me an enemy of such "services".

Excellent. The less shit jobs the better. We actually have people risking their lives to earn scraps, keeping billionaires wealthy, handling food, etc. that doesn't need to be handled.
-
Problem is there is no inverse equation. Eliminating "shit" jobs doesn't create "awesome" jobs. I'd like to see these "entry" jobs remain. Young people need to learn the value of work, making money, and managing finances. Lots of kids don't get a job until they're done college.

Unless stores like Walmart and Schnucks take 25% off my bill for using their self checkout lanes I won't be using them. I won't be helping them put hard working people out of a job and I certainly don't work there myself!
-
Good thing they are working towards giving you no choice. The 3 Walmarts near me (Yes THREE) have taken out 90% of the registers and put in self-checks and "conveniently" never have anyone working the actual registers. Black Friday is going to be interesting there.
