Good for him honoring his dad but how is this newsworthy? Millions of people across the world do stuff hours or days after their loved one died. I played a middle school basketball game days after my father ended his own life and I’m clearly no hero.

I know AP is using this as yet another “see what happens with COVID” but it seems exploitative here. So many nurses and doctors and essential workers lost loved ones and continued to push on without a national newspaper praising them. This kid played football. That’s it.

What is their vaccine status? This story is incomplete without that information. Did he bring this on himself by ignoring public health warnings? Are they now vaccinated? How about masking? Stop making these people martyrs if they didn’t take responsible steps to avoid Covid.
