No. They didn't expect the President and their military to run. Over 300,000 Afghan Army members plus an Air Force .. Twenty years to get ready for this and they ran. An unexpected collapse of the Afghanistan government occurred. Should we have known they would run? I don't know

Looks like the Last Supper, except here there will be no redemption and saving of souls.

It does have that "Last Supper" look. As for the painting on the wall, I think it is an alternate version of this: Coronation of Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1747 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Coronation_of_Ahmad_Shah_Durrani_in_1747_by_Breshna.jpg …

The job of the US government is not to install democracies in other countries... or at least that’s what George Washington tried to tell us.

I wonder if all the schooling and education may become a roadblock for the Taliban plans to impose strict laws. People who are educated seldom just "go along to get along" once they know more, understand why that's not a good idea.

Anyone else read this and just hear in their head "the communist Vietnamese government seeks to calm its citizens over fears as the US leaves the region to them"?

A lot of blaming going on this weekend. But if we are all honest, Afghanistan was always going to fall back to the taliban whether it be within 90 days 30 days or as we found out, less than a week. Anyone saying otherwise is just playing to their own political biases.
