States across the U.S. are looking to adopt new recycling regimes that require producers of packaging to pay for its disposal. Maine became the first state to adopt such a program in July. But the moves have ignited pushback from several industry sectors.http://apne.ws/4uhlKQu

I agree. Been saying Amazon should be responsible for picking up at least some of their packaging. Especially when you get something that fills just 25% of the box.

Worthless. The costs will be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.

When my town began curbside recycling, we were told the town would make money from forced recycling. 10 years later, they never made a cent & a most of the recycled materials end up in landfills.

Requiring packagers to pay for the trash their products generate in landfills makes all the sense in the world b/c they control the choices of what / where: - packaging to use - prices to charge - it is sold

Of course industry pushes back. They want to privatize profits and socialize costs.

It’s about damn time, and of course corporations resist ANYTHING that forced them to pay for the damage THEY profit from, “push it all on the working poor, they do all the work and get none of the credit anyway!” Companies need to stop being cheap and lazy and calling it strategy
