Still one of the best at weaving first-rate special effects with a strong story and interesting characters. Sadly, most films in the blockbuster genre now are just effects.

This man's 'Superman' has very little in common with today's superhero films. Donner's creation stood on its own as a film, without the need to be of a genre. It's head and shoulders above the dross that followed. His was a proper film.

Except that Christopher Reeves Superman was shot in three parts all at once. There are pieces from his filming used in the first three movies. Part II was ruined by the Salkind family who didn’t like Donner.
