Am I missing something here, wouldn't a more updated pipeline be better than one that could start leaking oil into the area?

So, an aging line that will eventually fail is better than replacing it?

Pipelines are illegally on treaty land. Never should have been installed here in the first place. You like them soo much have them on your property. The current line 3 is responsible for the largest inland oil spill in US history.

Isn’t replacing old worn out pipes a good thing

Why do these people oppose replacing an old leaky pipeline with a brand new one that most likely won’t leak.

Apparently they're not as concerned about the environment as they've claimed or they'd be all for replacing the aging pipe before it fails.
