The Japanese government would have to admit that they don't have the covid situation under control. It would be an embarrassment to them.

Few Japanese will feel that the Covid-19 pandemic is under control in the current situation in Japan
Good luck for Australian team
Japanese can’t do “Omotenashi” as we are still under the state of emergency

What is the point of delaying or cancelling the event? It shouldn’t be. We can’t continue keeping our lives on hold because of the various. We need a new approach. First, prioritise and vaccinate all competitors and officials, and mandate vaccination for spectators.

They will not cancel or delay the Olympics. The Japanese government is afraid of losing face. They want to look good, so they'd rather pretend everything is normal.
