Americans' distrust of the press goes deeper than partisanship and comes down to how journalists define their very mission, according to a new study from the Media Insight Project, a collaboration between the American Press Institute and AP-NORC. @dbauderhttp://apne.ws/eBXPxGn

The study defined five core principles or beliefs that drive most journalists. And it found that non-journalists offer unqualified majority support for only one of them – the idea that the press should provide people with facts.pic.twitter.com/svaiZtOpsN

There is less support for the principle that it’s important for the media to keep watch on public officials and the powerful, to give a voice to the less powerful, to put information out in the open and to spotlight a community's problems.

The study suggests ways that news organizations can reach people they may be turning off, showing that consumers are interested in news that highlights potential solutions to problems and want to hear about things that are working.http://apne.ws/feeG3dH

How about just reporting the unbias news? That would be nice. A 'just the facts' style of reporting that isn't filled with hosts/guests dumb opinion pieces.

You needed to do a study to come to this conclusion? Maybe get out and walked amongst us peasants more often.

There are so many problems that are intrinsically linked in today’s increasingly connected world. People get upset at immigration, crime, gun violence but are shortsighted in seeing their many origins. One massive problem is funding in education.

Yes, exactly! We want to know what's happening, but solutions are necessary, not just "it's bad," end program.

Media enjoy high public exposure. Everything is documented in the public sphere. As consistency is a huge part of building trust, when journos display constant shifting of beliefs, thoughts and standards? No trust. “Consistently inconsistent” is not the same as “consistent.”

It's nice when a news article can leave you not just knowing about something that happened but being informed about the topic. It would be nice if there were staggered articles. Starts with a headline, then you can expand the story and expand it further. A resource not just news
