Americans' distrust of the press goes deeper than partisanship and comes down to how journalists define their very mission, according to a new study from the Media Insight Project, a collaboration between the American Press Institute and AP-NORC. @dbauderhttp://apne.ws/eBXPxGn

There is less support for the principle that it’s important for the media to keep watch on public officials and the powerful, to give a voice to the less powerful, to put information out in the open and to spotlight a community's problems.

The study suggests ways that news organizations can reach people they may be turning off, showing that consumers are interested in news that highlights potential solutions to problems and want to hear about things that are working.http://apne.ws/feeG3dH

Who are these 71% of people who don't want journalists to "spotlight what's not right"?? This a poll of CEOs and politicians or something? lol Like that has to be something with the way it was worded or something, right?

I thought that the principles of journalism included asking performative gotcha questions, creating news by provoking politicians, asking questions with false premises, and trying to put words in other people’s mouth, then calling them out for not saying what you want.

Do you have a link to the original study? This article is full of people spouting off opinions, but without a link to the study (so your audience can read up on the questions posed, survey size, demographics of respondants, etc.), this is problematic as "journalism."

The AP has become an embarrassment to journalism if it thinks those are the five "core" values of the trade.
-
The AP was reporting on “a new study from the Media Insight Project, a collaboration between the American Press Institute and AP-NORC,” and the values were identified by those who conducted the study, not by the AP.
