They already are in Australia, the proposed law they’re opposing will force them to pay news sources to post on the platform, meaning, for example, if the law is folllwed through with Twitter would have to pay AP for this tweet to be seen in Australia.

I do agree, but as an Australian, the government is also completely at fault. If it wasn't for Murdoch wanting more money local news in Australia would still be alive today

Aussies on Facebook aren't exactly freaking out that Murdoch media no longer being shared. General reaction seems: Meh. Morrison govt's plans have already backfired. Nearly all Aus media blocked on Facebook, with FB stating they've now dumped Australian Facebook News project.

So to get their news, Australians will go back to traditional sources which means local media continues to be funded - the entire point of the law. Not sure how you think that's "backfired"?!
