What are the ramifications of this? Why wouldn’t he bequeath it to his children? I don’t know how these things work but it was considered an error when the Beatles’ publishing rights were sold to Michael Jackson.

Royalities. Whoever controls the rights get royalties from the work. That's every time it plays, every time it's used in a movie, TV show. You have to get a license for it. Oh, and that goes for cover songs and sample clearance. Dlyan will have no rights to his content.
