Japan is the home of judo, and the 19th-century martial art is drawing unwanted scrutiny over widespread allegations of violence, and accompanying injuries, abuse, and more than 100 deaths in Japan over the last several decades.http://apne.ws/RdlvZ7E

It's not the method / art that's key . Its the motivator. Not the 'how' , but the 'why' . The entire premise is a logical category error. A conflation.

Not really. The article specifically talks about how judo teachers are being too rough. I initially thought that the problem was something like you said, rooted in people learning judo and using it in negative ways, but it's actually in militaristic training as well as abuse

Japan just needs to point out all of the mass shootings in the US during the same period of time. I will take Cobra Kia everytime

Not surprised. Martial arts are dangerous. For comparison, 3 high school wrestling fatalities in 2015-16 season as of Dec 2016. Only 1 from wrestling injury (another from heart failure), but judo/kendo is part of the curriculum in Japan.https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/15431

Unless things have changed dramatically, 30+ kids in a class, relative novices, practicing throws with one PE teacher to oversee it all. What could go wrong?
