Maybe that pavilion should go the way of The Hanging Tree in Salem, MA.

Painful parts of history need to be remembered, so we do not repeat them
-
If we got rid of everything that made people uncomfortable, we’d have people who forget why, and the cycle will repeat. Like it is now. Tho I’m astounded at how fast AMERICANS forgot that we hate Nazis and that the sentence for treason is death. Julius & Ethel Rosenberg.

Isn’t stuff like that supposed to be a painful reminder? So we never repeat it? Like the Holocaust museum. I don’t understand the zeal to erase history. Learn from it.
-
If you never learn or forget history, you're destined to repeat it. We fought the Cold War vs Communism for 40 years and look now, 20 yrs later, ppl are actually commie sympathizers.

My family visited this site when I was in high school. I'm from the West Coast and knew very little about slavery in America. I remember it to today as a real eye-opener. It's not a monument to some random individual, it's a monument to the suffering of hundreds of thousands.
