What did peace look like when the US was there?

A rhetorical question, I think. Good point.

We all hope for peace for Afghanistan. The question: how effective will this be? So far, with the current US administration, the "let's leave-and-let them sort it out-amongst themselves" attitude doesn't yet seem to be working. Engagement is key for successful outcomes.

So many years of nonsense war, people dying in vain... The rich stay rich, the poor stay poorer.

It will be exactly like in Vietnam; one side will win... In this case the Taliban...

I thought the Taliban reneged on the deal?

No peace, but get all Americans out, and do not again risk their lives for barbaric Muslims.

There's risk in disengaging from Afghanistan. We mucked around there from 1979-1989 while Soviets were there. They left. So did we. Ensuing turmoil led to Taliban rule & AFG's becoming a haven for Osama Bin Laden. There are no easy answers. Recommend Coll's "Ghost Wars."
