Chicago teachers have ratified the contract deal that ended October's 11-day strike in the third-largest school district in the U.S. The deal includes pay raises and a pledge to put nurses and social workers in every school.http://apne.ws/bGW3NFm

We stand with you! It's a shame teachers have to go on strike especially in urban areas. Meanwhile, suburban school districts are swimming in cash and resources. We have to find an equitable way to fund schools and compensate teachers and support staff for their hard work.

Now if they only can teach the kids to stop killing each other that would be very nice. Every weekend the gunfire can be heard all the way to New Orleans. Can you imagine having to live in Chicago. SAD place constant killing

That’s the parents job; let the teachers teach academic skills.

People often think that collective bargaining is just teachers asking for more money. Often teachers are advocating for what students need most, like–in this case–nurses and social workers in every school.

        >99% of the time, collective bargaining results in improvements that are better for both teachers and students, working within the financial resources available to the school district. The public usually only notices the <1% of the time that negotiations break down.
