Keep hands on wheel? Then why bother having automation? Either drive the car or don't drive and if you have to keep your hands on a wheel of an automated car then the technology is not ready and clearly not trusted enough on its own

Well for one there should be no automated features to passenger car, it is not possible at all for such a system to work without all vehicles on the road being linked in some way, all vehicles would also have to be completely automated, not happening in your lifetime.
