Has anybody considered that perhaps architects with an anti-High Gothic bent could have been behind the fire?
The politically correct will call it an accident but I think this is something to consider...

this isn't going to end well.... too many cooks in the kitchen etc. Folks r going to be salty with a foreigner building it, money donors may have done so to restore it as is. A scan was done, get a French builder n restore it to what it was
