How many fires have been started by the utility company now?

Many, and they are passing the costs to the consumers.

How is that different from what BP did in the Gulf? They shouldn't be off the hook even if it's an accident.

That is correct. They burned my mountain property last year cutting diseased trees along the power line. They weren't carrying any fire extinguishing equipment. Left felled trees and debris which is a big fire hazard.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I thought Cali had more responsible laws. If 2 kids playing with matches cause a fire, I'm pretty sure they can prosecute, but not a wealthy, insured corp, doesn't make sense.

Yes, the legislators voted to pass the costs of PGE fires on to consumers bc they didn't want pge to go bankrupt. Ironic isn't it?

Interesting how many of these fires are associated with PGE.

That's why power lines belong into the ground! Like in any other first world country.

Sure, if cost is no object. It isn’t cheap to redo an entire infrastructure consisting of transmission & distribution. Given California’s rates are already among the highest, good luck getting customers to absorb that expense.

I hear you but A) this was pointing a systemic failure that is decades old. B) why do we always assume the consumer has to absorb (all) the cost. It's classified as a utility!

This is a recurring theme in CA. Expect rate increases as Utillity blames budgets for their incompetence. MAINTAINING the line clearance is not a huge expense, but the MGMT salaries and pensions are!

They got blamed for the last California fire this year right? I saw today there stock was down as much as 16% in fears they could hold responsibility again. This fire, given location, may be much more historic.

This company is in the wrong business. They have been from my understanding responsible for all but one of these major fires. Something is very wrong with the infrastructure to fail like this. Transmission lines just don't fall. Things happen to them.

Let's count how many people PG&E has killed. Governor Brown gives them a pass.
